7/1/2022 New Construction at Eldridge Elementary School (Option 1)

Advantages

  • Centralization of new construction
  • Maximize site area
  • New school can be constructed while existing school remains operational

Disadvantages

  • Building size limits outdoor space uses
  • Bus traffic may interfere with parent drop off/pick up traffic
  • Overall outdoor open space is reduced for community use
  • Existing grade of the proposed open space area limits use
  • Historical impact to demolishing Eldridge

7/1/2022 Addition at Eldridge Elementary School (Option 2)

Advantages

  • Adaptive Reuse of the building is a prudent and sustainable endeavor
  • Centrally located within the community
  • Brings added value to the community’s historical legacy

Disadvantages

  • Significant costs to convert an older structure to a new century educational facility
  • Building must be vacated to perform the work for an extended period of time
  • Additions may overwhelm the existing building and therefore jeopardize the historical context and legacy

Advantages

  • Adaptive Reuse of the building is a prudent and sustainable endeavor
  • Centrally located within the community
  • Brings added value to the community’s historical legacy

Disadvantages

  • This school will only be a (1) track school after aligning with RIDE guidelines
  • Equity across all Elementary Schools is not attainable or able to be achieved
  • Significant costs to renovate an older structure to a new century educational facility
  • Building must be vacated to perform the work for an extended period of time
